In 1990 a board game created by Jose' and Lloydine Arguelles was released called Dreamspell. This board game was based loosely on the Maya Tzolk'in Sacred Calendar. There is a common misconception that this board game is some kind of ancient calendar. In fact, the only truth within it, as it pertains to the Tzolk'in is that there are 20 Day-signs, 13 spiritual energy tones, 20 trecenas, and the day-signs being related to the four cardinal directions. The Tzolk'in is a 260 day calendar not 365 days. The Maya do have a 365 day calendar called the Haab that is comprised of 18 months of 20 days followed by a final 5 day month often regarded as a dangerous or unlucky month. The Maya Day-keepers and priests utilize the Tzolk'in Sacred Calendar for birth charts, readings, ritual/divinatory purposes, agricultural, as well as human gestation cycles and the Haab is used for tracking agricultural seasons and ceremonies.
Following the Tzolk'in Sacred Calendar is akin to living in Sacred Time. When you follow the Tzolk'in you are aligning yourself with the spiritual energy of the universe. Each day on the Tzolk'in has its own unique energy. As stated above there are 20 Day-signs and 13 spiritual energy tones that make up the Tzolk'in and it takes approximately 52 years (subtract 13 days for the additional day added to leap years) to go through all the possible combinations. It takes 52 years because each of the Day-signs are also connected to a cardinal direction and each day, trecena, season and year must pass through each of the 4 cardinal directions in order to be complete. I posted the other day in our group about how we go through multiple endings in our lives, this can be seen by following the Tzolk'in. Each day, trecena, season, year, are all associated with a different cardinal direction. The Maya even consider anyone 52 years old or older to be an Elder for this very reason. Elders have experienced every possible combination.
Any calendar that is 365 days long is a "solar" calendar meaning it follows the sun's cycle. The sun is masculine energy. The Tzolk'in is 260 days or 9 lunar months and 8 days the approximate time of human gestation in the womb. It doesn't get anymore feminine than that or anymore in tune with our innate human cycle. I was gifted the opportunity to learn the Tzolk'in Sacred Calendar and I share it daily in our group and in our blog. The spiritual energy of the day is located in the group and trecenas are located in our blog. I highly recommend following the Tzolk'in Sacred Calendar it is life changing to align yourself with Sacred Time. But if you're following the Dreamspell know that you are doing yourself a great disservice because it doesn't align with the cardinal directions of nature or your natural cycle.
